Who's Who & How it Works
The Crestone/Baca Land Trust is a non-profit Colorado corporation, that has recently been granted recognition by the IRS as a tax exempt publicly supported 501 (c) (3) organization.
Decision-making is in the hands of a board of directors, who, like the officers, are all volunteers. Area residents, landowners, homeowners and all who care about preserving this special land and its natural environment are welcome to attend meetings, offer their input and participate in a variety of ways. Normally, meetings are on the 3rd Saturday of the month.
We are proud of our extremely low overhead which means that most of the money we raise is spent directly on our conservation projects.
The Board of Directors meets monthly to handle the multiple responsibilities of the Land Trust that include:
- Guiding the vision and goals of the Land Trust;
- Developing, submitting and administering grant proposals;
- Staying abreast of state and national Land Trust laws and events;
- Coordinating with local, county and state agencies as needed;
- Negotiating land trades and new conservation easements;
- Monitoring existing conservation easements;
- Overseeing the regular operations of the non-profit corporation.
